Plain of Jars, Laos

Located about 30km from Phon Sa Vanh town which is the administrative center of Xieng Khouang province, the jars’field is located on a vast ten-hectare plateau.The plain of jars have approximately 1,969 jars scattering in 52 locations in Xieng Khouang province. The largest is 3m high. The heaviest jar reaches to 14 tons, while the majority of jars is about 1 to 2 meters high. Local people here still believe in the legend that the plain of jars is a giant cemetery or a resting place of thousands of dead people, who were very rich and had enough money to be buried in the coffins like this. From a distance, Plain of Jars looks like a chessboard. Currently, the Plain of Jars is still one of the dangerous archaeological sites in the world. Unexploded bombs left during the war are still scattered somewhere. In wartime, the US Air Force threw lots of bombs in these areas. Tourists are required to visit the safety regions and must follow the instructions in the signs

Pha That Luang, Laos
